ARTISTS STATEMENT

As an artist, I have been fascinated by the dichotomies that exist when the body is used as site for exploration. In my work I have often investigated this, private/public, mine/yours, interior/exterior, abject/object, ugly/beautiful. Through this interest I made the seemingly obvious discovery that my relationship with my own body was the most important part of my research. I began documenting the how my body interacts with the world in a variety of ways, and my curiosity is in a state of exponential growth. I see submitting work to ISM as an element of this deep, personal relationship I am developing with myself. The more I learn the more I want to experience, and I want to share this overwhelming love and acceptance I have come to feel for my own body and that which occurs about it.

Bands I like: As I am a singer I tend to prefer music that has lyrics, but my taste is very eclectic.
Books I like: I love books on art, design, photography, or graphic novels or books about illustrations or tattoos. I am a pictorial enthusiast.
Films I like: I watch lots of documentaries. I also love Wes Anderson films for their stories as much as their colour palettes and directorial finesse.
